ARTIST STATEMENT (suomeksi)
ARTIST STATEMENT (in english)
I work with photography, video and performance. The key elements of my work are transitoriness and the control and uncontrollability of the present moment. My works are often based on real life experiences. Their themes are about presence and death. I am also fascinated by disposable aesthetics, the theme of easygoing life seen in snapshots and TV entertainment. Unique things and everyday life coexist in my work. My works are media performances that take the form of either installations or live action on stage. A common element in all my performances is the use of a stuntwoman and projections controlled in real time. The performances churn out danceful and digital maelstroms, electric crackles and flashes. The staging and role models in them are often inspired by computer games and TV entertainment. The staging of the pieces has increasingly begun to resemble a computer screen as the technology of the performances and my own role as director, using a computer mouse to control the action, have become an element that is visible to the audience. |
